MSCVGA Interclub Competition Up-date - Callala Event 28/08/2010

Following complaints made by several of our members regarding the condition of the course at Callala last month, representation was made by Catalina Captain to MSCVGA Secretary over the matter.

For information, the following is a response from MSCVGA Secretary, John Buttle in relation to the issue:-

"After representation from one of the competing clubs in the above event it was necessary for me as Secretary of this association to resolve the matter in timely fashion by referring it to higher authorities including Mr. Rod Clark at NSWGA.

Last Monday the Host Club Callala exercised their right under Rule 33-8 of the Rules of Golf to establish a number of Local Rules due to the abnormal condition of the course for play.

The local rule whereby two (2) holes being the 5th. and the 14th. were defined as a maximum two (2) putts to count is in direct contravention of Rule 1 – 1 in Section 3 – The Rules of Play, Rule 1 – The Game Definitions.

That rule states that “The Game of Golf consists of playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules.

The team scores therefore for the competition are to remain as recorded however the input of individual competitors scores to Golf Link is in error.

As discussed with Steve Chapman (Captain, Callala Vets) the Host Club is to take necessary action to correct the above anomaly.

It is requested that Callala Vets. advise when appropriate action has been taken."
